OPEN CALL Research Residency

Stroom Den Haag and national museum Huis van het boek are looking for artists from The Hague who want to draw inspiration from the rich collection of the museum.

Huis van het boek focuses on books as cultural and artistic objects. It is the oldest book museum in the world and has an impressive collection, ranging from medieval manuscripts to contemporary artists' books. With this unique collection, historic location and contemporary programme, the museum connects the past and the present. In exhibitions and programming, the museum brings together centuries-old books with contemporary art.

In collaboration with Stroom, the museum is launching an Open Call in search of artists from The Hague who want to draw inspiration from the museum collection. Artists are invited to conduct artistic research into the collection and are invited to use the research period freely.

Want to participate?

Send a proposal of no more than one A4 page, explaining your artistic practice and idea for this open call. Also include a second file with images of previous work.

What do we offer?

• A fee of €4400 for conducting research (8 hours/week) in the period between 1 November 2025 and 1 February 2026.
• Three guided sessions with in-depth exploration of the collection of the museum
• If necessary, a presentation moment to be developed at a later stage

Selection procedure

Only submissions from artists registered at Stroom will be considered. The following criteria will be decisive:

• Artistic quality
• Link with the collection of the museum
• Feasibility within the monumental setting of the museum
