Exhibitions

Emily Hunt: More Magic

This autumn, the National Museum Huis van het boek presents the first solo museum exhibition in Europe by artist Emily Hunt.

According to Hunt, the world needs more magic. Over the past months, she has delved into the museum’s rich collection in search of magical books. This exploration became the foundation for a new series of enchanting works of art: ceramic sculptures, etchings, portraits, jewelry, murals, marionettes—and a performance that will premiere during the opening. Emily Hunt looks to the past in search of magic for the future.

News from Nowhere

Why Do Artists Write Novels? In their research project The Book Lovers, David Maroto and Joanna Zielińska take as their starting point the question of how a literary genre like the novel can become a medium within the visual arts—just like video or installation.

In this exhibition, the museum presents The Book Lovers collection of 678 artists’ novels, alongside the very first artist’s novel, News from Nowhere (1890), by artist, designer, publisher, writer, and utopian thinker William Morris.

Featuring works by, among others, Etel Adnan, Leonora Carrington, Salvador Dalí, Yayoi Kusama, Grayson Perry, and Andy Warhol.
